Description : The Great Crested Grebe is a grey waterbird with two prominent ear-tufts (adult bird length approximately 50 cm, wing 20 cm, bill 4.3 cm, tarsus 5.8 cm). The non-breeding adult looks dark greyish-brown from above and whitish from below. It has rufous-orange flanks. It has carmine-red irises and its bill is dark brown with a paler tip and a crimson base. It breeds in June-August. The great crested grebe feeds mainly on fish, but also small crustaceans, insects, small frogs and newts.
