Red serows are found in a range of forest habitats, including tropical and subtropical forests, as well as montane and deciduous forests.

They are herbivores, feeding on a variety of plants including leaves, twigs, and bark.

Red serows are typically solitary or live in small groups, consisting of a female and her offspring. They are primarily active during the day and are known to be excellent climbers, able to scale steep and rocky terrain with ease.

The red serow is considered endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to habitat loss, hunting, and disease. Their populations have declined significantly in recent years, and conservation efforts are underway to protect them.
