Description : Gaur are the largest wild cattle species, with a muscular, stocky build, and a shaggy, dark brown coat. Their large curved horns, which can grow up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) in length, are a distinguishing feature.

Adult male gaurs can stand over 2 meters (6.5 feet) tall at the shoulder and weigh up to 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs). Females are slightly smaller, with an average weight of around 650 kg (1,400 lbs).

Gaurs are found in a variety of forested habitats, including tropical and subtropical evergreen forests, moist deciduous forests, and montane forests.

They are primarily diurnal and spend most of their time grazing on grasses and browsing on leaves. Gaurs are social animals, living in small herds of 6-12 individuals, usually consisting of females and their young, along with a few males.

Gaurs are listed as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to habitat loss and hunting for their meat and horns. They are protected in many national parks and wildlife reserves, but their population continues to decline in some areas due to habitat fragmentation and poaching.
