Description : Nilgai is the largest antelope in Asia, with males standing about 1.3 meters (4.3 feet) at the shoulder and weighing up to 250 kg (550 pounds), while females are smaller, standing about 1.1 meters (3.6 feet) at the shoulder and weighing up to 145 kg (320 pounds).

Adult male nilgais have a bluish-grey coat, while females and juveniles are more tawny-brown in color. Both sexes have white markings on their face, legs, and throat.

Nilgai prefer open habitats, such as grasslands, shrublands, and agricultural fields, and are found throughout the Indian subcontinent, from Pakistan to Bangladesh.

Nilgai are primarily herbivores, feeding on grasses, leaves, and fruits.

Nilgai are mostly diurnal, being active during the day, and are generally solitary or found in small groups of up to six individuals. Males defend territories and harems of females during the breeding season.

Nilgai are classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, as they are widespread and relatively common, with a stable population trend. They are also considered a nuisance to agriculture and are hunted for their meat and hides.
