Scientific Name : Orsotriaena medus
Family : Satyridae
Order : Lepidoptera
Class : Insecta
Phylum : Arthropoda
Habitat : Lowlands

Description : It is a medium-sized butterfly with a wingspan ranging from 45 to 55 mm (1.8 to 2.2 in). On the upper side, the butterfly is dark brown with a delicate pale border along the edges. The upper hindwing features a thin submarginal line, but there are no eyespots on the upperside of the wings.

On the underside, the butterfly displays a white discal band that stretches across both wings. It possesses five eyespots on the underside of the wings. The forewing has two eyespots, with the anterior one being slightly smaller. In the hindwing, there are two eyespots in the apical region and a separate ocellus in the tornal (hindmost) region. The uppermost eyespots in the hindwing are significantly smaller than the other two, which are more or less equal in size.
The butterfly lays its spherical and yellowish eggs on the leaf blades and stems of grasses. The larvae have a spindle-shaped appearance with transverse wrinkles and are covered in small tubercles, giving them a rough texture. Two long brown spines on the head point forward, while a pair of pinkish prongs project from the anal segment. Their color above is rosy red with a blue dorsal and a white lateral line. The underparts are green below this white lateral line.
The pupae hang perpendicularly and have a slender and regular shape, except for a long beak-like extension formed by two thin processes resembling split straws. The pupae's color ranges from whitish brown to yellow, with faint bands of darker shades, giving them the appearance of a large barley grain or a tiny banana.
