Description : The male butterfly has a black forewing, with the basal two-thirds of the lower area displaying a deep metallic blue color that varies in extent among individuals. The hindwing is also black, with a deep metallic blue disc that varies in size. The abdominal marginal space is pale, and there is a glandular basal patch between veins 7 and 8. The male has a black tail tipped with white, and the cilia of both wings are black with white tips.

On the underside, the butterfly is dark chocolate brown with paler areas. The forewing has a club-shaped silvery streak in the cell, a round silvery spot at the end of the cell, and a discal series of four silvery spots in a straight line. The hindwing exhibits a prominent, curiously-shaped silvery band, along with several indistinct whitish lines and a black anal lobe with a long tail tipped with white.

The female butterfly varies in color from purplish-brown to bright shining blue on the upper side, with black borders of varying width. The underside markings are larger and more prominent than in the male. The female also has a medium-sized filamentous tail at the end of vein 2, in addition to the tail at the anal lobe. Both genders have black antennae and head, with the tips of the antennae being pale orange-red. The body is black above and brown beneath, while the palpi are white underneath, and the eyes are ringed with white.
