Description : The male has a dark violet-purple upperside with minimal gloss, which makes the marginal black borders less visible. The forewing has a moderately broad blackish band on the costa and outer margin, widest on the latter. The hindwing has a broad costal band and a narrow outer marginal band, sometimes just a line. The anal lobe is dull red, and the cilia are black. Underside is rufous-brown with a black line from the costa to the hind margin on the forewing, followed by disconnected lunular black marks and faint indications of a sub-marginal series. The hindwing shows a medial outwardly curved black line and an indistinct discal series of black dots with white points, continuing from the forewing lines, and a sub-marginal series of similar black dots. The female's upperside is very dull violet, possibly violet-brown, with broad blackish-brown borders on the forewing. The hindwing is generally a uniform dull violet-brown without borders, and the anal lobe is similar to the male. Underside varies in shade from ochreous-grey to violet-brown, with markings similar to the male, and some darker examples have a band of suffused whitish marks connected to the discal line. The antennae are black with an orange tip, and the head and body match the wing coloration.
