Irrawaddy dolphins are found in freshwater and brackish water environments, such as rivers, estuaries, and coastal areas.

Irrawaddy dolphins are known for their playful and social behavior. They are often seen swimming together in small groups, and are sometimes observed interacting with boats and humans. They are also known for their ability to spit water as a form of communication.

Irrawaddy dolphins feed primarily on fish and crustaceans, such as shrimp and crabs. They are known to forage in groups and use a variety of hunting techniques, including driving schools of fish into shallow water to make them easier to catch.

Irrawaddy dolphins are classified as a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Threats to their survival include habitat loss, pollution, entanglement in fishing nets, and hunting for meat and traditional medicines. Conservation efforts are focused on reducing these threats and protecting their remaining habitats.
