Description : It Possessing an elongated body, a depressed head, and a sub-terminal mouth, this species features transversely oval eyes situated dorsally. It has two pairs of nostrils and four pairs of barbels, with the maxillary pair extending to the base of the caudal fin. Both the dorsal and pectoral fins boast a robust spine, with the dorsal spine finely serrated along its posterior edge. The well-developed adipose fin originates near the caudal fin. The caudal fin is forked, with the upper lobe slightly longer than the lower. A complete lateral line is present.

Reaching a maximum reported length of 186 cm, this bottom-dwelling fish is commonly found in both freshwater and brackish water. During reproduction, it builds nests and guards them, typically breeding before the onset of the monsoon.
