Description : Fishing cats are about the size of a domestic cat, with males weighing around 10-12 kg and females weighing around 5-7 kg.

They have a distinctive appearance, with a short, dense coat that is olive-brown in color and marked with black spots and stripes. They have a flattened face, short ears, and webbed feet.
Fishing cats are found in a range of wetland habitats, including mangrove swamps, marshes, and riversides.

As their name suggests, fishing cats are excellent fishermen and are known to swim and dive to catch fish, crabs, and other aquatic prey. They also hunt birds, rodents, and reptiles.

Fishing cats are solitary animals and are active mainly at night. They are excellent swimmers and have been observed diving underwater to catch fish. They are also skilled climbers and are able to climb trees to hunt prey or escape danger.

Fishing cats are listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to habitat loss and degradation, hunting for their fur and body parts, and retaliatory killing by farmers who view them as pests. Conservation efforts include the protection and restoration of wetland habitats, as well as the establishment of captive breeding programs.
