Description : Swamp deer are among the largest deer species in Asia, with males typically weighing between 170 to 280 kg (375 to 615 lbs) and females between 130 to 145 kg (285 to 320 lbs).

They have a distinctive light brown coat that turns reddish-brown in summer and grayish-brown in winter. They also have a white rump patch that is surrounded by a dark stripe on their back, and males have antlers that can grow up to 1.2 meters (4 feet) long.

As their name suggests, swamp deer are primarily found in wetlands, marshes, and floodplains of rivers .

Swamp deer are herbivores, and their diet consists of grasses, leaves, fruits, and flowers. They are known to be particularly fond of water plants.

They are generally social animals, and can be found in herds of up to 20 individuals, although sometimes solitary. Males are usually solitary, except during the mating season when they seek out females to mate with.

Swamp deer are listed as a vulnerable species due to habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and competition with domestic livestock. Conservation efforts such as habitat restoration, captive breeding, and anti-poaching measures have been put in place to protect them.
