Class : Mammalia

Other Name : Asian Palm Civet
Habitat : Forest, Shrubland, Grassland

Description : The Common Palm Civet has a long, slender body with a tail that is almost as long as its body. It has short, dark brown fur with white underparts and a pointed snout. Its feet have pads for climbing trees.

This species can be found in a variety of habitats such as forests, plantations, and even urban areas.

Common Palm Civets are primarily nocturnal and arboreal, meaning they are active at night and spend most of their time in trees. They are solitary animals and have a territory which they mark with their scent. They are also known to be good climbers and can move quickly through trees.

The Common Palm Civet is an omnivore, and feeds on a variety of foods including fruits, insects, small mammals, and sometimes birds and eggs.

Females give birth to 1-2 offspring at a time, which they care for until they are able to fend for themselves.

The Common Palm Civet is listed as a species of "Least Concern" on the IUCN Red List, although habitat loss and hunting for their meat and fur are potential threats to their population. They are also sometimes captured for the production of civet coffee, a type of coffee made from the beans that have passed through the animal's digestive tract. The production of civet coffee has led to the capture of civets from the wild and is a controversial practice.
