Description : Male colour Sergeant butterfly has a black base on the upperside of the wings with a pale margin.Both wings contain orange yellowish streak and some white detached median spots.Underside of the wings is yellowish-brown,markings are si,ilar to that on the upperside and with dark brown margin.The wings of female butterfly on the upperside is pale orange yellow and the markings are similar to male only broader in size.The underside of the wings is bright yellow colored with markings of varied color. The upper side of this butterfly species is black, with markings resembling those found in the male counterpart. However, in this case, the markings are broader and display an orange-yellow hue. On the forewing, the discal band is complete, and the inner subterminal band is much more defined and wider compared to the male.

On the underside, the ground color appears as a paler brown than that observed in the male butterflies. The markings on the undersides are similar to those on the upper side but take on a pinkish-white tone. The dark brown blotches found in the interspaces and the series of dark discal spots on the hindwing are more prominent and noticeable in this gender of the butterfly.
