Other Name : Javan Yellow-throated Marten
Habitat : Forest, Shrubland
Description : Yellow-throated Martens are relatively small, with an average body length of 45-55 cm (18-22 in) and a weight of 1-3 kg (2.2-6.6 lbs).
They have a slender, elongated body with short legs, and a bushy tail that is about as long as their body. They have a yellow patch on their throat and a dark brown to black coat that is lighter on the underparts. Their fur is thick and soft, providing insulation from the cold.
Yellow-throated Martens are found in forests and woodlands across Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. They prefer moist habitats near water sources such as rivers and streams.
Yellow-throated Martens are carnivorous and primarily feed on small mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects. They are also known to eat fruit and carrion.
They are solitary and nocturnal animals, spending most of their day resting in trees or dens. They are agile climbers and can jump from tree to tree with ease. They are territorial and mark their territory with scent markings.
Yellow-throated Martens are listed as a species of "Least Concern" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). However, they are threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation and hunting for their fur and meat.
