Description : The Crab-eating Mongoose is a small to medium-sized carnivorous mammal. It has a long, slender body, short legs, and a pointed snout. It has a dark brown to black coat with a gray underbelly.

These mongooses are found in a variety of habitats, including forests, grasslands, and wetlands. They are known to be excellent swimmers and are often found near water bodies.

As the name suggests, the Crab-eating Mongoose feeds primarily on crabs, but also eats other small aquatic animals like fish, mollusks, and frogs. It will also eat insects, small mammals, and birds.

These mongooses are mostly active during the day, but can also be active at night. They are usually solitary or found in pairs, and are known to be aggressive towards other mongooses of the same species. They are also excellent climbers and are often seen scaling trees and other vegetation.

The Crab-eating Mongoose typically breeds once a year, with a litter size of 1-4 pups. The gestation period is about 2 months, and the young are weaned at around 3 months old.

Habitat loss and degradation, as well as hunting for their fur and meat, are the primary threats to the Crab-eating Mongoose. However, they are not currently considered to be a threatened species.
