Description : Adult It can grow up to 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) in length. It has a light to dark brown color with black, white or yellow bands around the body. The distinctive characteristic of this species is the presence of a monocellate marking on the back of its hood resembling a pair of spectacles or a monocle, hence the common name "monocled cobra". It is mostly nocturnal and solitary, but can also be active during the day. When threatened, it will raise its body off the ground, flare out its hood, and make a hissing sound to intimidate predators. It is one of the most venomous snakes in the world, with a potent neurotoxic venom that can cause respiratory failure and death in humans. Its venom is composed of various toxins, including cytotoxins and cardiotoxins. It feeds on small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and occasionally, other snakes. It is found in a variety of habitats, including forests, agricultural land, and even urban areas. It prefers areas with water sources, such as streams and ponds. It is important to note that it is a dangerous species, and should be treated with caution and respect.
