Description : The annulated sea snake has a slender body with a distinct head and small eyes. It has a distinctive banded pattern of black and light blue or yellowish-white rings that run down the length of its body. It can grow up to 1.5 meters in length.
The annulated sea snake is one of the most venomous sea snakes in the world, with a potent neurotoxic venom that can be fatal to humans if not treated promptly.
This species is found in shallow tropical and subtropical waters in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, from the east coast of Africa to Japan and Australia.
The annulated sea snake feeds mainly on small fish and eels. This snake is a strong swimmer and spends most of its life in the water, only coming to land to rest or lay eggs. It is generally not aggressive towards humans unless provoked or threatened. The annulated sea snake is oviparous, meaning that it lays eggs. The female can lay up to 4-8 eggs at a time, which are deposited on land or in shallow water. The young hatch after a period of incubation, typically ranging from 40 to 60 days. The annulated sea snake is not currently considered to be endangered or threatened, but it is still vulnerable to habitat loss and accidental entanglement in fishing gear.
