Description : The adult Malayan box turtle can grow up to 20 cm (8 inches) in length and weigh up to 1 kg (2.2 pounds).
The turtle has a domed, brownish-black carapace (shell) with yellowish lines and markings. The plastron (underside of the shell) is yellowish with dark blotches. The skin is dark brown with yellow markings on the head and limbs.
The species is primarily found in rivers, ponds, and swamps.
The Malayan box turtle is a diurnal species, meaning it is active during the day. It is also known to burrow into mud or sand to escape extreme heat or cold.
The turtle is omnivorous, feeding on a variety of plant and animal matter, including insects, snails, fish, and aquatic vegetation.
Females lay 2-4 eggs in a clutch and bury them in sandy riverbanks. The eggs incubate for approximately 60-90 days before hatching.
