They have a distinctive coat with a brownish-grey base color and black stripes on their legs, back, and tail. Their fur is long and shaggy, giving them a scruffy appearance.
Striped hyenas are scavengers and will eat a variety of foods, including carrion, insects, fruit, and small mammals.
They are nocturnal and solitary animals, although they will occasionally hunt in small groups. They are known for their loud, distinctive call, which sounds like a cackling laugh.
Striped hyenas can be found in a variety of habitats, including deserts, forests, and grasslands. They are found in parts of Africa and Asia, including the Middle East and India.
Striped hyenas are listed as Near Threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Habitat loss, hunting, and persecution have led to a decline in their population.
