Order : Carnivora
Class : Mammalia

Other Name : Malayan Sun Bear

Description : The sun bear has a short, sleek black coat, which can appear reddish or brownish in certain lighting. They have a distinctive yellowish-orange crescent-shaped mark on their chest, which gives them their name. Their snout is short and wide, with a protruding lower lip and a long, curved tongue.

The sun bear has strong, sharp claws and a long, flexible tongue that help it extract insects and honey from tree bark. They also have a keen sense of smell, which they use to locate food and communicate with other bears.

Sun bears are omnivores and their diet includes a variety of fruits, insects, small mammals, birds, and occasionally fish or carrion.

They primarily live in tropical forests and are known for their ability to climb trees.

Sun bears are generally solitary animals, although they may form pairs during the mating season. They are mainly active during the day and spend much of their time foraging for food. They are also excellent climbers and can be seen resting in trees.

Sun bears face threats from habitat loss, poaching for their body parts, and the illegal pet trade. They are listed as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and are protected by national laws in many of the countries where they are found.
