Draco maculatus

Spotted Flying Lizard Did you see this animal?

Scientific Name : Draco maculatus
Family : Agamidae
Order : Squamata
Class : Reptilia
Phylum : Chordata
Habitat : Mixed evergreen forest

Description : The spotted flying lizard is a small, slender lizard that measures around 18-25 cm in length. Its skin is covered in small, pointed scales that give it a rough texture. The lizard is typically brown or green in color, with a series of white or yellow spots on its body and tail.

Like other flying lizards in the Draco genus, the spotted flying lizard has a flap of skin called a patagium that extends from its ribs to its hind legs. It uses this membrane to glide between trees and avoid predators.

The spotted flying lizard is an insectivore and primarily feeds on ants and other small insects. It uses its long, sticky tongue to catch prey while perched on tree branches.

The spotted flying lizard is a diurnal species and is most active during the day. It spends most of its time in trees, using its sharp claws and long tail to cling to branches and avoid predators. When threatened, it can detach its tail as a distraction and then regrow it later.

The spotted flying lizard is found in primary and secondary rainforests, where it can climb and glide between trees. It is most commonly found at elevations of 300-1,000 meters above sea level.
