Description : The black softshell turtle is distinguishable from common turtles by its unique features. Its semi-flexible leathery shell allows for greater mobility, and it has a tube-like structure protruding from its nose that functions like a snorkel. The ligaments have hand-like structures that are webbed, unlike other turtle species. Its skin is generally black or dark brown, with occasional white or yellow spots across its head and ligaments.

Adult Bostani turtles can range in size from 15-31 inches in width and 13-28 inches in length, with an average area of 195-868 inches squared. Females weigh around 120 pounds, while the weight of males has not yet been determined, but their larger size suggests they are heavier.

The black softshell turtle is primarily found in freshwater rivers, lakes, and ponds.
The black softshell turtle reaches sexual maturity at around 7-8 years of age, and mating usually occurs during the rainy season. The female lays an average of 20 eggs in a nest she digs on the shore, which then hatch after a period of about 100 days.
