Description : The body of Pungas species is elongated and compressed and head covered by soft skin.They are whitish-black above and silvery along the abdomen and has 2 pairs of barbels along the sub-terminal mouth. Occurs in both freshwater and brackish water environments, including habitats such as big rivers, floodplains, estuaries, and canals. Typically occupies the lower portions of large rivers and estuaries. This species is not only carnivorous but also notably voracious, feeding on both decaying animal and vegetative matter. Its primary breeding occurs in estuaries during the rainy season.
