Description : Gangetic Ailia has an elongated and deeeply compressed body.It has 4 pairs of barbels and they appear as silvery in color.Their dorsal fin is absent and caudal fin is forked. It is Known as "kajoli" in West Bengal and "banspata" (bamboo leaf) in Bangladesh, this fish is highly regarded for its palatable flesh. It holds significance in local commercial fisheries. However, the habitat of A. coila is rapidly diminishing, influenced by both natural and human-induced factors.
