Habitat : Ponds, lakes, streams and slow moving small rivers.
Description : Adult Bengal eyed turtles can reach up to 25 cm (10 inches) in length and weigh up to 1.2 kg (2.6 lbs).
They have a distinctive appearance, with a large, flattened, olive-green shell (carapace) and a yellowish underside (plastron). Their heads and legs are also olive-green in color, and they have prominent eyes with dark, distinctive markings around them.
Bengal eyed turtles are found in freshwater habitats, such as rivers, ponds, and lakes, in their native range. They prefer slow-moving or still waters with plenty of vegetation.
These turtles are omnivores and feed on a variety of plants and animals, including insects, crustaceans, mollusks, and small fish.
Bengal eyed turtles are generally docile and are known to bask in the sun on rocks or logs. They are also known to be good swimmers.
The Bengal eyed turtle is listed as "Vulnerable" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), primarily due to habitat loss, pollution, and overexploitation for food and the pet trade.
