Description : The Loggerhead Sea Turtle is one of the largest sea turtles and can grow up to 3.5 feet (1.1 meters) in length and weigh up to 275 kg (605 lbs).
The Loggerhead Sea Turtle has a large, heart-shaped shell that is reddish-brown in color. The shell is made up of bony plates that are covered with horny scales called scutes.
The Loggerhead Sea Turtle has a large head with powerful jaws that are used to crush the shells of crustaceans and mollusks, which make up the bulk of its diet.
The Loggerhead Sea Turtle is found in warm ocean waters around the world, including the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. It spends most of its life in the water but comes ashore to lay its eggs on sandy beaches.
The Loggerhead Sea Turtle is a strong swimmer and can dive to depths of over 1,000 feet (305 meters). It is a solitary animal, but females come ashore to lay their eggs in large groups called arribadas.
The Loggerhead Sea Turtle is listed as a threatened species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Its population has declined due to habitat loss, hunting, and accidental capture in fishing nets. Conservation efforts include protecting nesting beaches, reducing pollution, and reducing accidental capture in fishing gear.
